Summer 2006
MERIT (Music Education Reinforces Intellect and Talent) program
at the Music Academy of the West.
Directed by Dr. Linda Holland the Music Academy of the West MERIT
program has accepted by audition 24 talented musicians ages 11-18.
For the first two weeks in July these students will be immersed
in the Music Academy culture of chamber music, coaching, private
lessons, masterclasses, and a final concert.
The closing concert is on Sunday July 16, 2006 at 2:00 pm in
Lotte Lehman concert hall on the Music Academy of the West campus.
The public is invited and admission is free.
Dr. Linda Holland became director of the MERIT program in 2004.
During her tenure the level of musicianship among the students
has risen dramatically. Auditions are open to any orchestral instrumentalist
between the ages of 11 & 18.
In 2006 sixty instrumentalists auditioned and twenty-four were
accepted.
Applications for the summer 2007 will be available in February
2007.
